KING RICHARD begins the scene by reading a note that suggests he will be defeated at the Battle of Bosworth Field.  Whilst he has been arrogant of his own powers throughout the play, a nightmare / visitation from his murder victims the previous night has made him anxious and vulnerable.  He then addresses his troops and tries to rouse them into action.
