OBERON is the King of the Fairies, and PUCK is his servant. OBERON is jealous of the attention that a young Indian foundling receives from TITANIA (the Queen of the Fairies) and so instructs PUCK to play a joke on her, which involves dropping love potion into her eyes so that she will fall in love with the first thing she spies when she wakes up. As such, she is now cuddled up with NICK BOTTOM, a weaver whose head has been transformed into that of a donkey. In this scene, PUCK reports to OBERON.
