SNOUT is a rather slow-witted member of the troupe of ‘mechanicals’ who have been rehearsing a play for the wedding of THESEUS and HIPPOLITA.  In this scene, he explains his role in the play as the ‘wall’ which separates the would-be lovers PYRAMUS and THISBE.
